‘Google Apps’ is Google’s name for its group of ‘office’ or enterprise administration applications. Google sees three main areas of application (pardon the pun) for these Google Apps: business, education and personal use. Accordingly, access to Google Apps is based on these ‘models’.

Google categorises it’s Apps for Business as Messaging Apps and Collaboration Apps. Messaging Apps are Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Groups. Collaboration Apps are Google Docs, Google Sites and Google Video.
Google Apps for Education
Google categorises it’s Apps for Education as Communication Apps, Collaboration Apps and Customisation packages. Communication Apps are Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Groups. Collaboration Apps are Google Docs, Google Sites and Google Video. Customisation packages
